Sports Signups & League Play

 

Tavares Babe Ruth League


The City of Tavares offers youth baseball and softball for children ages 4-15 in both the spring and fall seasons.  League play is held at both our Woodlea Sports Complex and Fred Stover Sports Complex; additional games are also held in neighboring communities. 

REGISTRATION FEES:

Fees for participation are $85 per child and birth certificates are required.

DATES FOR 2019 FALL SEASON:
Registration for the 2019 spring season will begin on August 12, 2019 in the Tavares Recreation Department offices located at 123 N. St. Clair Abrams Avenue.  You may also register on Saturday, August 17th & 24th from 9:00am - 12:00pm at Tavares City Hall located at 201 E. Main Street.

The season will conclude with a Fall Family Fun Day for all the kids and parents on Saturday, November 23rd at Fred Stover Sports Complex.

Tavares 3v3 Basketball League


Brand new to the City of Tavares, our 3v3 is ready to take Ingraham public park by storm. Our new basketball program will consist of the different age divisions like 13-15, 16-18, and an 18+ league. 

Games will be played in the evening time starting November 5th. Registration for the league is going on now, until October 30th. The fee for this league is $15 per person. For more information call the Tavares Recreation Department at (352)742-6181

Start Smart 

Start Smart Baseball is a developmentally appropriate introductory baseball program for children 3-5 years old. The program prepares children for organized tee ball, baseball and softball in a fun, non-threatening environment.

Start Smart Baseball prepares children and their parents for organized baseball and softball without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Age appropriate equipment from Franklin Sports® is used in teaching throwing, catching, batting, running and agility.

Tavares Senior Shakedown


Please join the City of Tavares and our senior citizen community as we offer a fun, entertaining and energetic afternoon of dancing, karaoke, games and more!  Held on the first Monday of each month starting in October, this event is free to attend and sure to bring a smile to your face. The dates are below.

Try your hand with the karaoke machine, show off your favorite dance moves, or just congregate with your friends.  Held at the Tavares Civic Center (located behind the Tavares Public Library) from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.  For additional information, please call (352) 742-6370.


Tavares Senior Bingo

As part of its quest to deliver quality programming to the community, the Tavares Recreation Division is pleased 
to offer a fun and tasty afternoon of
Bingo, Donuts, & Coffee,  the 2nd Monday of the month beginning October 14, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Tavares Civic Center located at 100 E. Caroline Street.

Please share this notice with anyone that you feel would enjoy a 
few hours of warm engagement, hot coffee, sweet donuts, and friendly competition.






Community Recreational Opportunities

The Big House Sports Complex


Located at 1544 Lane Park Cutoff Road in Tavares, the Big House offers a variety of competitive and recreational sports opportunities.  From senior citizen days and adult nights, to before/after school care for your kids, there is something for everyone at the Big House.

The Big House features 9 maple wood basketball courts that convert into 16 volleyball courts for a variety of play.  They offer youth and adult leagues, clinics, camps and open play for all ranges of skill level.

Tavares Youth Football League


The Tavares Youth Football League is a private, volunteer-based organization offering a football and cheerleading program for children ages 7-14.  They strive to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. Through this active participation, Tavares Youth Football (TYFL) programs teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives.

TYFL seeks to provide fun athletic learning opportunities for children, while emphasizing the importance of academic success.  Specifically, TYFL seeks to familiarize players and spirit participants with the fundamentals of football. TYFL strives to inspire youth, regardless of race, creed or national origin, to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness.

Golden Triangle YMCA


The Golden Triangle YMCA is a local branch of the Central Florida YMCA.  Located at 1465 David Walker Road in Tavares, their purpose is to improve lives of all in Central Florida by connecting individual, families and communities with opportunities based on Christian values that strengthen Spirit, Mind and Body.
