City Elections


City Council elections take place each year, with Council members serving two-year terms.

Seat #1, Seat #3, and Seat #5 come open in even years.

Seat #2 and Seat #4 come open in odd years.

The qualifying period begins August 1st at 12:00 noon and ends August 15th at 12:00 noon.  If August 15th should fall on a Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday then all required forms must be submitted and processed the first working day on or before 12:00 noon following August 15th in order to qualify as a candidate to be placed on the ballot.

Election Candidate Packets are available in July after the Mayor reads the Election Proclamation.

Voting

To vote in City of Tavares elections residents must register at the office of the Lake County Supervisor of Elections, 1898 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, Florida, during the usual office hours.  For additional voting information visit www.lakevotes.com or click on the below Easy Voter Guide link. 

Early Voting

The City of Tavares does not provide early voting in municipal-only elections.

Absentee Ballots

If you are unable to vote on election day, you may request an absentee ballot. Call the Lake County Supervisor of Elections at 352.343.9734 for more information.

Polling Places for the City of Tavares: Visit Where do I Vote?

On election day the polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Bring photo ID, with signature. Check your voters registration card for your official polling place. On election day you must vote in your assigned polling place.
