Criminal Investigations
This area is overseen by Captain Jon Hall. The criminal investigations division is comprised of three detectives who investigate major felonies, misdemeanors and vice/narcotic crimes. The unit is also in charge of intelligence gathering, including homeland security and crime trends in the area.
The unit utilizes a variety of investigative methods, as well as using a variety of computer networks to obtain information.
The undercover component utilizes state of the art equipment and surveillance techniques, as well as typical undercover work. Often, the unit joins with surrounding law enforcement agencies on investigations.
If you have been a victim of a crime, your first encounter with the Tavares Police Department would have been with a uniformed officer, who would then turn the report over to Criminal Investigations. Once the case has been assigned to a detective he/she will contact the victim to investigate further. Detectives are able to devote more time to investigating a case than a uniform officer can. Lt. Jon Hall oversees this division.
Special Investigations Unit
The special investigations unit is responsible for all narcotic investigations, undercover operations, surveillance as well as other vice crimes.
The unit is comprised of officers not only from TPD, but in partnership with surrounding law enforcement agencies. This allows the unit to tackle the problems of drugs from a larger perspective, making enforcement more effective. Lt. Jon Hall oversees this division.
