Fire Department
The City of Tavares Fire Department is a career department with 21 professionals providing "round-the-clock" fire and life safety protection to the residents of our beautiful city.  Eighteen of our personnel are assigned to the Operations Division and work a 24-hour "on", 48-hour "off" shift.  Three of our personnel are assigned to the Administrative Division, and keep regular business hours.

We strive for excellence in the customer service we deliver, and we consider anyone who needs our help to be our customer.  Our primary response jurisdiction is the City of Tavares, but through a series of inter-local agreements with our neighboring communities and Lake County, and through mutual aid agreements, we occasionally travel outside of our City to help others.

In 2007, we responded to 2,500 calls for assistance.  Those calls included responding to fires, automatic fire alarms, automobile collisions, extrications, smoke investigations, water rescues, natural cover fires, and weather emergencies.  Through an agreement with Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services, we respond jointly with their ambulances to medical emergencies, and render emergency medical care to the sick and injured.
