Code Violation Notices, Hearings and Fines
If you receive a Warning of Code Violation find out how to correct the violation and do so promptly. Depending on the violation, you will be given a few days to 2 weeks to correct the problem. If you are unwilling to take prompt action to correct the violation, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue a formal Notice of Code Violation. You will then be granted 10 days to correct the violation. You may be granted additional time if you can demonstrate that you are actively taking steps toward correcting the violation. If the violation is not corrected, you will be scheduled for a public hearing before the Special Master where you have the opportunity to present your case. If the Special Master determines that the violation persists, you may be assessed a fine up to $250 per day per offense, for each day the violation is not corrected, or up to $500 per day for each repeat violation. Such fines are assessed against the property owner and are recorded in the Lake County Public Records as a lien against the property.
