Project Overview

The study is being conducted by the City of Tavares in association with Lake County.  The purpose of the study is to evaluate the need for improvements within the study corridor and to develop and evaluate feasible alternatives.  The study process involves three key elements; public involvement, engineering analysis, and environmental evaluation.  By blending each of these elements together, the study seeks to develop alternatives that are technically sound and cost feasible, environmentally sensitive and publicly acceptable.  Once the viable alternatives have been identified, the objective is to achieve consensus on a single improvement alternative, often referred to as the preferred alternative.  It is the preferred alternative that is advanced into the design phase and eventually to construction.

Public Involvement

Keeping the public informed is a critical part of the study process.  The public involvement program creates opportunities for the public to review the project and provide valuable input to the project team as the study is developed.  This exchange supports the consensus building process, which is crucial to developing a successful transportation improvement project.

As the study progresses and project alternatives are developed and evaluated, they are presented to the public through a series of public meetings.  This provides an opportunity for the project team to receive and consider feedback from all interested parties.  Materials distributed at the public meetings and other project related information is available for download in the Public Meeting Materials section.

Updates to the Tavares City Council at their regular meetings are provided to keep the Council apprised of the project status.  The Council will ultimately participate in the selection of the preferred improvement alternative, and will give final approval for the study.  The preferred alternative concept will then be carried forward into the design phase.
