Sports Signups & League Play 

Tavares Babe Ruth League
The City of Tavares offers youth baseball and softball for children ages 4-15 in both the spring and fall seasons.  League play is held at both our Woodlea Sports Complex and Fred Stover Sports Complex; additional games are also held in neighboring communities. 

REGISTRATION FEES: Fees for participation are $75 per child and birth certificates are required.

Registration for the 2016 season will begin on January 19, 2016 in the Tavares Recreation Department offices located at 123 N. St. Clair Abrams Avenue.  You may also register on Saturday, January 23rd and Saturday, January 30th from 9:00am - 12:00pm at Tavares City Hall located at 201 E. Main Street.

Games will start with our Opening Day Ceremony on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Fred Stover Sports Complex.  The ceremony will begin at 10:00 am with games beginning at noon.  the season will conclude with a Spring Fling Fun Day for all the kids and parents on Saturday, May 14th at Fred Stover Sports Complex.

Tavares Adult Co-Ed Kickball League
Are you looking for something as adults you can do that is fun, active, and where you can make new friends?

The Tavares Adult Co-Ed Kickball League will begin with games on Wednesday evenings at Woodlea Sports Complex on January 13, 2016 and continue through March 9, 2016.  Fees are $250 per team and include team prize packages with trophies and t-shirts for winning teams.  An "end-of-season" competitive tournament will highlight the league during the last week of the season.

Tavares Adult Men's Softball League

The City of Tavares invites teams of men to compete in our winter softball league. Team entry fee is $400. Games are held on Friday nights at Fred Stover Complex in Tavares starting on January 15, 2016 and running through March 11, 2016.

Tavares Annual Father Daughter Dance

Calling all DADS with little princesses at home….you are invited to attend the City of Tavares Annual Father Daughter Dance on Thursday, February 11th at the Tavares Pavilion on the Lake.  Tickets are $10 per person ($20 per couple) and available through the Tavares Recreation Department located at 123 N. St. Clair Abrams Avenue. 

The evening will begin promptly at 6:00pm with a variety of decorated treats and snack food located throughout the two-story Pavilion.  As always, dancing and games will be located on the upper level overlooking Lake Dora.  Raffle items to include a 59” plush teddy bear will be given away throughout the night.  The event concludes at 8:00pm with each girl receiving a sparkling red rose upon exiting to take home.

Tavares Senior Shakedown
Please join the City of Tavares and our senior citizen community as we offer a fun, entertaining and energetic afternoon of dancing, karaoke, games and more!  Held on the first Monday of each month starting in October, this event is free to attend and sure to bring a smile to your face.

Community Recreational Opportunities

The Big House Sports Complex
Located at 1544 Lane Park Cutoff Road in Tavares, the Big House offers a variety of competitive and recreational sports opportunities.  From senior citizen days and adult nights, to before/after school care for your kids, there is something for everyone at the Big House.

The Big House features 9 maple wood basketball courts that convert into 16 volleyball courts for a variety of play.  They offer youth and adult leagues, clinics, camps and open play for all ranges of skill level.

Tavares Youth Football League
The Tavares Youth Football League is a private, volunteer-based organization offering a football and cheerleading program for children ages 7-14.  They strive to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. Through this active participation, Tavares Youth Football (TYFL) programs teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives.

TYFL seeks to provide fun athletic learning opportunities for children, while emphasizing the importance of academic success.  Specifically, TYFL seeks to familiarize players and spirit participants with the fundamentals of football. TYFL strives to inspire youth, regardless of race, creed or national origin, to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness.

Golden Triangle YMCA
The Golden Triangle YMCA is a local branch of the Central Florida YMCA.  Located at 1465 David Walker Road in Tavares, their purpose is to improve lives of all in Central Florida by connecting individual, families and communities with opportunities based on Christian values that strengthen Spirit, Mind and Body.
